Usefull Info:-
If you decide to holiday in Kalkan, you will be given the name and telephone number of a contact of ours in the village, who will help you with anything you may require.
Telephone
There are several public phone boxes at the post office. The phone cards are easy to use and if dialing UK you need to call 00 44 for the country code, then miss the first 0 from the area code. So 01508 would become 00 44 1508 then the remainder of the number.
Banks/Post office
There is a bank opposite the taxi rank for changing cash or travellers cheques, although you may find you get a better rate at one of the local shops. Most of them change GB pounds to Turkish Lira. You should get a better rate in Turkey than at home.
The Post Office, or PTT, is on the same side of the road a little further down towards the village centre. You can change money here too, buy stamps and phone cards. They are open for most of the day and quite late into the evening.
Supermarkets
There are several shops and small supermarkets in Kalkan that sell most things. Bread is very cheap at about 15p a loaf.
Fruit and Vegetables
The shops and supermarkets tend not to sell fresh fruit and vegetables but there is a small fruit ‘n’ veg market daily near the taxi rank. Again, very cheap and a wide variety.
There is also a very big market in Kalkan on a Thursday which has an enormous array of fruit, vegetables and spices among other things, like “designer” clothing and goods which tend to be of good quality.
Cleaning
The apartments are cleaned before arrival, once during a weeks stay and three times during a fortnight stay.
Rubbish
Waste is collected daily by the gardener/handyman for the block of apartments just leave your rubbish outside the apartment door.
